Brunei can emerge key logistics hub |

Courtesy of The Brunei Times - published on February 3rd, 2007 BRUNEI stands a good chance of becoming a key provider of IT-based solutions to support transport, supply management and logistics-related activities in the region, said a logistics industry analyst. The sultanate can tap into this industry which is currently dominated by Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia by focusing on technological aspects, said Fauziah Talib, chief executive officer of consulting firm IQ Quest. "Technology based on productivity is critical to the (logistics) industry, because in such a globalised environment, you have to ensure that you could transport it (products) at the lowest of costs and effectively and on time and you need technology to ensure that can happen. That's where there is an opportunity for Brunei." |

Brunei can get 1% of global halal market |

Courtesy of The Brunei Times - published on February 2nd, 2007 Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei has the potential to grab a one-per-cent share of the lucrative global halal food market partly by providing the logistics technology needed to ensure the proper handling of such products from the producers to buyers. The logistics side of the halal food market is valued between at $7.5 billion and $15 billion, said Fauziah Dato Talib, chief executive officer of consulting firm IQQuest. This is estimated to account for five to 10 per cent of the total global halal market. |

APEC to curb pirated goods |

Courtesy of Brunei Times published on November 25th, 2006 ASIA-Pacific business leaders yesterday called for an Asia-Pacific free trade area to counter the increase of mini-pacts that are adding costs and complexity to doing business in the region.The Apec Business Advisory Council (Abac) also urged leaders of the 21 Pacific rim economies meeting in Hanoi to take stronger steps to curb trade in pirated goods and develop better plans to deal with pandemics such as bird flu. At their annual meeting ahead of the Apec summit this weekend, the business council noted that bilateral and regional trade pacts have blossomed in recent years, while a vast Apec-wide zone had yet to get off the drawing board. |
